The important changes quantum mechanics has undergone in recent years are reflected in this new approach for students. A strong narrative, and over worked problems lead the student from experiment, through general principles of the theory, to modern applications.

Stepping through results allows students to gain a thorough understanding.

Starting with basic quantum mech The important changes quantum mechanics has undergone in recent years are reflected in this new approach for students. Starting with basic quantum mechanics, the book moves on to more advanced theory, followed by applications, perturbation methods and special fields, and ending with new developments in the field. Historical, mathematical, and philosophical boxes guide the student through the theory.

Unique to this ayletta are chapters on measurement and quantum optics, both at the forefront of current research. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students will benefit from this new perspective on the fundamental physical paradigm and its applications. Online resources including solutions to selected problems, and figures, with color versions of some figures, are available online. Hardcoverpages. Published April 1st by Cambridge University Press.

Dec 11, Tom rated it it was ok Shelves: The selection of topics are diverse and modern but the presentation is not great. The book is more like a collection of quanrum abstract formalisms and results, each of which you can probably find a better presentation somewhere else.

Here is a sample of thoughts that I have while reading this book: Why is “Quantum tomography” auletat an entirely separate chapter?

Why is there only homodyne measurements of t The selection of topics are diverse and modern but the presentation is not great. Why is there only homodyne measurements quuantum the Wigner function in “Quantum tomography” and no heterodyne measurements or general POVM? Why “Qubits” has its own section in “Quantum information and quantum computation” when they’re defined as nothing but quxntum systems?

Actually there is a deeper operational definition that can be given using Schumacher’s compression. With so many topics that this book covers, it has the potential to bring them all together into a unified modern understanding of quantum mechanics.

But Auletta et al. Quantum Processes, Systems, and Information is much better at integrating advanced topics such as quantum information and quantum computing, POVM, quantum open systems, and thermodynamics to the core understanding of quantum mechanics.

The first two chapters of Quantum Measurement and Control provide a more complete framework for quantum measurements.

Quantum Mechanics by Gennaro Auletta

I remember finding original paper Auletta et al. And quantum optics are probably better presented in Curiously, these various topics do come together in Auletta’s interpretation of quantum mechanics in his book, Quantum Mechanics for Thinkers.
